This image is of a sheep pen where shepherds would keep their flocks. The shepherds would drive their sheep all day and then, at nightfall, keep them inside. But since there was no gate, the Shepherd would lay across the opening, keeping the sheep in and protecting them from the wild animals.

In John 10:7-10, Jesus paints a picture that the people would understand. He is not only the Shepherd but also the gate or the door. When we trust in Jesus as our Savior, He is our protector. We listen to His voice and follow Him. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Whoever enters through Him will be saved!

“Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:7-10
