There was a time in my life when everything had to be perfect at Christmas. I needed our house to shine with the outdoor lights and to enjoy the real tree experience. My Christmas cards had to say just the right thing, and my cookies needed to be perfect. But little did I know that as exhausting as it was to create this perfect holiday, none of these things were required to do so. This gift wasn’t in the lights, the tree, the cards, or the cookies. The gift wasn’t what I could do but what God had already done for me. Sending His Son, Jesus, changed everything, and when I realized that – it even changed me.
I encourage you to be mindful of the Christmas you create this year. If your usual festivities make you lose sight of the real reason you’re celebrating, then give those over to God. Find a way to make Jesus the reason for the season.
