Have you ever said something, and once the words left your lips, you could see the pain they caused? You may have deliberately been trying to hurt that person or trying to speak your side. I’ve done this more times than I care to admit, and in the end, no matter what the reasons were, I always wished I could take those words back.
Whether we like it or not, our words can be like a spark in a dry forest. In minutes the damage is done, and everything can be gone. Proverbs 26:20 says, “Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down.” We all want to be heard and tell our side, but at what cost?My prayer is that we ask the Lord to set a guard over our mouths and keep watch over the door of our lips and that we are slow to speak, quick to listen, and quick to love.
