I babysat my grandson yesterday. He loves to come to our house, and when he’s here – he doesn’t want to nap but play and play. As he pushes past his nap time and fights sleep, he becomes irritable and whiny, quick to cry and tell me how unhappy he is about things. So, finally, I pick him up and hold him close. He holds his head up, fighting sleep and the urge to rest and let go. And in that moment, I think – this is us with Father God. How often do we try to do things on our own, resisting His call to rest in Him until we are past the point of reasonable, operating in the flesh, and easy to offend?

Finally, after several moments, my grandson laid his head on my shoulder, his body getting heavier and heavier until he was fast asleep. And this can be us, too. Isn’t it time to surrender? Isn’t it time to let go and rest in Him?

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” ~ Matthew 11:28-30
