My first season of “observing” Lent was back in 2013. I went to an Ash Wednesday service and learned that the season of Lent was designed to evaluate areas of your life where you were thirsting for God.
At the time, my thoughts went to my struggling marriage, and I spent the next two weeks realizing I was full of bitterness and resentment toward my husband and could no longer push those feelings aside. They were actually choking out the love. Through prayer, I was able to see the areas that I needed to change, which in turn changed my marriage.
Since then, I’ve embraced Lent and used it as a time to reflect on my life and how I can grow closer to God. Over the next forty days, we will start our journey toward the cross–all in the hope that we will embrace the greatest gift we were ever given.
