When Jesus was on the Mount of Olives, before his enemies came to arrest Him, He asked the disciples to pray. “When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. ‘Why are you sleeping?’ he asked them. ‘Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.’” (Luke 22:45-46).

Brothers and sisters, it’s time to wake up! It’s time to rise up and pray. Rise up and pray for our country. Rise up and pray for our leaders. Rise up and pray for the communities in which we live. Rise up and pray for our family and children. Rise up and pray for wisdom and that we will not listen to the lies of the enemy.

There will be moments in this life when we will question—we’ll ask why it has to be this hard, why we are here, and how long it will have to be this way. But we must remember that God never promised this life would be easy—only that He would never leave or forsake us. He is refining us with fire so we can someday stand on streets of gold. So rise up and remember that God is still in control—we already know how this story ends! Amen.
