Did you know that God doesn’t keep score? He doesn’t add up all the things we’ve done wrong and all of the mistakes we’ve made. When we ask for and receive His forgiveness, “he has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” Psalm 103:12 What a beautiful gift!
Yet, even though we receive this gift and thank Jesus for dying on the cross to make a way, we have a hard time extending this gift of forgiveness to others. We keep track, make lists, and add up all the transgressions people have done against us, including our spouses, family, friends, and those we don’t know. Does this seem right? The bible is clear when we read Matthew 6:14-15: “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
I want to encourage you today that it’s time to put away the chalk and pen and paper. It’s time to stop making the lists. Let’s forgive others the way Jesus forgives, and extend the gift so freely given to us. Amen!
