What is an idol? Its definition is an image or representation of a god used as an object of worship. It’s anything we put before God and value and count on more than we do God Himself. The Bible is clear about what idols are. Psalm 135:15-18 reads: “The idols of the nations are silver and gold, made by human hands. They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see. They have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their mouths. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them.”
There was a time I took an inventory of my own life. There were many things I had worshiped and put before God: money, prestige, and acceptance. Letting go and putting God first was the wisest thing l ever did, and I continue to keep my impulse to do otherwise in check.
Whatever you have been worshiping in your life more than God, it’s time to let it go. Today, open up your clenched fist and let go of whatever you are holding onto tighter than you are to God. Once you do, you’ll find freedom in trusting Him and worshiping Him alone.
