As we move through December, it’s hard to contain our excitement. We sometimes use Advent calendars to count the days before we celebrate Jesus’ birth. But can you imagine that instead of waiting days, we would have to wait one thousand years? The first Christmas had been prophesied for hundreds of years, as we read in Isaiah 7:14: “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” Eight decades later, the angel Gabriel came to Mary and told her that she would give birth to a son and that His name would be Jesus.
The waiting is over, my friends! We not only have Immanuel with us, but we can rejoice that Jesus is coming again soon! Hallelujah!
