How many of us, at one time or another, have found our identity in someone or something else? I know I have. I went to this person for everything. I even saw myself and my value through his eyes. But when things changed and we grew apart, what I saw in his eyes changed how I felt about myself, and I almost disappeared. When the relationship was over, I poured myself into my job. My value became tied up in how well I succeeded at work and the praise I received from others.
It wasn’t until God showed me that my value is in Him that I could put my job in its proper perspective. I could also then love someone else without losing myself. How did I do it? I had to stop believing the lies from the enemy that I had no value. I had to let go of everything I had ever believed about myself and replace the lies with the truth. God loves me. I am His. He died for me, even while I was a sinner. He wants to be my everything. And He wants you to believe all of these things, too. Let go of what you once thought about yourself. Let go, and you will find you.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” 1 Peter 1:3
