How often do we immediately stop what we’re doing so we can see or hear from Jesus? Or do we say, I’ll pray tonight – I’ll read my Bible later – I’ll spend time with Him tomorrow. And before we know it, it’s another day with another busy schedule. What I love about Luke 19:1-9 is that Zacchaeus didn’t put it off. He ran through the crowd and climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus. And Jesus took notice. When he arrived at the tree, Jesus looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.”
Zacchaeus wasn’t this devout follower. The text tells us that he was a tax collector and probably not an honest one at that. But seeing Jesus changed Him, and because Zacchaeus came after Jesus, Jesus met with Him and changed His life. I don’t know about you, but I want to chase after my Lord with all my strength. I’ll climb every tree until I can see Him, spend time with Him, and have Him transform my life.
