When I first read about Abraham as a child, how they waited for a son, and when God finally blessed them in their old age, He tested their obedience – I didn’t know how I felt about that. I also questioned whether I had an “Isaac” in my life and whether I would be willing to offer them up as a sacrifice. But now that I have gotten older and better understand God’s Word and His heart, He may have tested Abraham’s obedience, but He provided the sacrifice – not only with the ram but His only Son. God’s love for us is so great He is willing to hold nothing back from us. He made the ultimate sacrifice – let us never forget.
“After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” Genesis 22:1-2
