Truthfulness is an important aspect when living a life like Christ’s. It is not only one of the Ten Commandments, but Jesus talks about it when giving the Sermon on the Mount: “‘All you need to say is simply “Yes” or “No”; anything beyond this comes from the evil one’” (Matthew 5:37). But why do you think telling the truth is so important? Some people think there is nothing wrong with enhancing their account with some minor fabrications, while others have no problem prevaricating their entire story. For me, I’ve seen firsthand what a lie can do to a relationship, and this is why I believe love rejoices with truth. When your yes is yes, and your no is no, not only is there peace and trust, but those who love and rely on you can let down their walls and be vulnerable and know they don’t have to be on guard trying to discern the meaning behind your words. And when truthfulness is a foundation for living your life, it allows you to believe other truths and ideas and not be leery. God knew it would be a crucial component in how we live our lives and spelled it out for us in the beginning. Today, rejoice in truthfulness. It will set you free!
