Hebrews 9:14 reminds us that the constant need for sacrifice is over. Jesus doesn’t need to die on the cross every time we sin. When He said, “It is finished,” He meant just that – the work is done. The Greek word translated “it is finished” is tetelestai, an accounting term that means “paid in full.” Our debt is paid. What we need to do now is repent and receive – recieve forgiveness and go and sin no more. We are free.

“How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God.” Hebrews 9:14
