I’ve never experienced anything more humbling than walking into a building to get food and having no money to pay for it. The atmosphere differed from a grocery store that streamed music in the background and had customers bustling about. People talked quietly in the food pantry, gathering their boxes and picking out their needed food. I struggled with how this would affect my children and what they would think of me as their mother. And while a waterfall of emotions washed over me, pride would not be one of them. I would’ve done anything for my children.
When you love someone, there is no room for pride. I will never forget that season in my life when I swallowed anything resembling self-regard and focused on what my children needed. God supplied all of our needs and gave me the strength to endure.
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” Philippians 2:3
