There is power in words. The Bible tells us in Proverbs that gentle words bring life and health, that words are like honey, sweet to the soul, and that words can be lifegiving. But Proverbs also says that harsh words stir up anger, that rash words are like sword thrusts, and that people will give account for every careless word they speak on the day of judgment.
How can we be mindful of our words? We need to think more about what Jesus thinks of our words and less about what others think. In a day when words fly around like arrows that pierce our heart, let this be our prayer today: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and redeemer.” Psalm 19:14
